Your Rights as a Client

As a consumer of psychological services, you have the right to be fully informed before engaging with therapy. This includes honesty and transparency about fees and what to expect during therapy sessions.

Mental health professionals in your community offer a range of fees. Please ring around and compare the knowledge base, skill set, experience, continued professional development, and choice of modalities your psychologist offers you to work with your trauma. Talk therapy is not enough for the majority of people suffering trauma, including complex and developmental trauma. When selecting a provider, please consider their training, experience, qualifications, and areas of specialization and focus.

The fees at RMB Psychology reflect the level of qualifications, specialised training, experience  and continuing professional development.  The fees cover your session time, brief additional phone consultations, referral calls, consultations with referring doctors and other health professionals and general correspondence. They also cover continued professional development so we can bring you, the client, the latest cutting edge knowledge in neuroscience, tools, strategies and skills in understanding, and treating your trauma.

  • Australian Psychological Society National Schedule of Fees (2025-26): $318

Educational investment -  Helen Romas-Werts has completed years of higher education, including an undergraduate degree and a Masters.  This represents significant time, effort, and often substantial student loan debt that factors into their fee structure.

Clinical training and specialized expertise - Helen brings extensive specialized training in evidence-based trauma therapies:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing) - She previously worked at The Melbourne Clinic (Australia's largest private psychiatric hospital) where she ran Victoria's first inpatient EMDR program, conducting both group and individual trauma sessions. EMDR is an internationally recognized gold standard treatment for PTSD.
  • Somatic Experiencing® (SE) - A body-centered approach to healing trauma that recognizes trauma impacts the whole person, not just the mind.
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) - An innovative therapeutic approach for understanding and healing different parts of ourselves.
  • Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) - Another evidence-based gold standard treatment for PTSD.

Unique lived experience and cultural competency - Helen has a 30-year career as a first responder before becoming a psychologist, giving her rare insight into:

  • The operational environment of emergency services (police, paramedics, firefighters, volunteers)
  • The daily stressors and constant demands placed on first responders
  • Organizational dynamics, including workplace bullying and unhealthy internal cultures
  • The balance between trauma witnessed on the job and trauma caused by workplace environments
  • Understanding legal and medical professionals who face vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue

Ongoing professional development - Helen maintains specialized expertise in trauma-informed care and neurodiverse affirming practice, continuing to develop skills through required continuing education and staying current with evidence-based treatments for PTSD, Complex PTSD, stress, cumulative stress, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, burnout, depression, and anxiety.

Multidisciplinary experience - Her work on multidisciplinary teams at a major psychiatric hospital demonstrates experience collaborating with psychiatrists, nurses, social workers, and other mental health professionals to provide comprehensive care.
